Decades of Plant Health Impact

How a foundation grew alongside the communities it serves.

Over 25 years ago, members of the Western Plant Health Association recognized a growing disconnect between communities and the food they eat, the plants that sustain them, and the agricultural systems that feed us. They believed that lasting change begins in the soil and in the classroom. From that conviction, they built a grants program that placed school gardens in the hands of teachers and children across California, creating living laboratories where students could discover, firsthand, the science and wonder of how plants grow. That vision became the California Fertilizer Foundation, and today it has evolved into something greater: Healthy Plants Foundation — a modern, mission-driven organization investing in school gardens, university partnerships, and the next generation of plant health leaders. Our name has grown with our purpose. Our commitment to communities, classrooms, and the future of plant health has never wavered.

Rooted in Purpose, Growing for the Future

Since 1999, Healthy Plants Foundation has been cultivating a deeper connection between people, plants, and the communities that depend on them. Through our School Garden Grant Program, University Student Dinner series, and a long-standing commitment to agricultural education, we invest in the students, educators, and industry leaders who will shape the future of plant health across the Southwest.

Agricultural Education and Community Outreach

The Healthy Plants Foundation School Garden Grant Program is dedicated to deepening children’s experiences and appreciation of plant health, nutrition, and agriculture through the power of hands-on school garden experiences. Beyond our grants, Healthy Plants Foundation actively participates in the California Chapter of the American Society of Agronomy Scholarship Program, and our signature University Student Networking Dinner series at college campuses across California; connecting the next generation of plant health professionals with the industry leaders. It is through the generosity of our donors, sponsors, and community partners that we are able to fund the programs, people, and places that make this mission possible. We are deeply grateful for your support; because of you, children are growing and students are thriving.
